Kudos to Chip for seeking Jake out after the game and spending a couple of minutes with him. Too bad this game got buried on the PAC network and finished at 2:30 EDT.
Agreed re: Haener.
Agreed re: Chip's post-game class.
Like that Haener hobbled to midfield to greet Bruin players at end of game, while rest of team just ran to their fans in the stands to celebrate. (Of course, it was "closer," so maybe that's what motivated the not-moving-well-at-all player).
BTW, I harp on game management and play calling as the feel of the game dictates because it is so critical, especially at game's end. I think Chip blew it by not running the ball when UCLA was in easy FG range and there remained 1+ minute on the clock (and UCLA had timeouts). You have to burn clock there to avoid giving Fresno State sufficient time to score the other way, no matter how far-fetched a TD may have seemed (and it should not have seemed that far-fetched given their penultimate TD drive). Plus, the clock was no barrier to UCLA scoring a TD. The "feel" of the game live was that UCLA was likely going into the end zone for a TD, and a FG was a gimme. You have to put premium on hamstringing your opponent in that situation (i.e., draining clock). Chip didn't do that, and I think it likely cost them the W.
