The computer rankings don't mean a lot this early in the season, since they are still so heavily influenced by last season. But for whatever it is worth:
The Massey ratings have Stanford at 7. The two wins and the loss wound up not budging us a bit from our pre Bahamas ranking, as far as Massey's algorithm was concerned.
Tennessee hangs in at a surprising 8. Their earlier win over South Florida looks pretty good.
South Carolina will stay at 1 until they lose, I think. So we have two very difficult games on our December road trip.
In other rankings, South Florida climbs to 21, Texas to 5, Arizona at 2 since they have not lost yet, Indiana (never highly regarded by the computers) is at 22 just below S Florida.
The Pac 12 is not doing well in Massey's rankings with only 3 in the top 20. Oregon is 15, Colorado 28, Oregon State 31, Washington State 33, Utah 35, USC 48, UCLA fell 35 places to 55, ASU 60, Washington 65, Cal 67. All pretty much garbage-in garbage-out ratings given the limited data.
The ratings do not account for the oversized influence of injuries on the handful of early outcomes, for example, which really affected us (although we did not know it at the time) and UCLA and Oregon, not to mention Maryland and Indiana. When so many teams are playing without their best players, it takes even more credibility away from these rankings.
But they are what they are. A vague indication of how teams are doing so far.
