Men's Golf begins their quest for a national championship in earnest starting Monday at the Preserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. I've not yet seen an official liineup but I expect it to be this (Golfstat ranking): Michael Thorbjornsen (20), Karl Vilips (63), Barclay Brown (157), Henry Shimp (235), Alex Yang or Ethan Ng, Alternate: Ng or Yang
Stanford is the #3 seed in the regional among 14 teams, including four automatic qualifiers from winning their conference championship tournament. Five teams and one individual not on those top five teams will move on to play at nationals at Grayhawk GC in Scottsdale, AZ May 27-Jun 1
Teams at the regional in order of seed and their ranking in Golfstat
#4 Arizona St, #9 Washington, #16 Stanford, #21 LSU, #28 Oregon, #32 Nevada, #38 Liberty, #46 BYU, #54 UAB, #59 Houston, #63 UC Davis, Denver, Abilene Christian, Weber State
This regional is relatively weak, but Stanford will need their trio of Thorbjornsen, Vilips, and Brown to play well and for the rest to not fall apart. Not making the cut for nationals would be a significant setback for the program.
