Interesting dynamic among the teams that are likely fighting for the last few spots in the top 8.
Stanford will be starting on the front 9 and playing with Georgia Tech and North Carolina, which are 8 and 9 shots ahead of them.
The other teams that are clustered closely behind Stanford - ASU, Florida St, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Auburn, Texas A&M - will be paired together and starting on the back 9.
Stanford players will have no idea where they stand as a team as they play their round unless they are checking Golfstat or getting reports from coaches or fans. There are no on-course scoreboards as far as I know. But the other teams also won't be able to get a read on where Stanford stands because the Cardinal will be playing on the other side of the golf course. I am sure that the coaches are emphasizing the importance of playing against the course, not the leaderboard. Still, I can imagine the great temptation to want to know the standings.
Stanford also will be finishing on the dangerous 18th hole, a long par 4 with water abutting the green which slopes left to right toward the water. Stanford has 3 double bogeys and a sextuple bogey 10 on that hole through 3 rounds (though they played it nearly perfectly yesterday with 4 pars and a bogey).
