Has anyone considered that the erosion of the football program is being intentionally ALLOWED to happen?

Fan base dwindling, transfer portal exodus, attractive NIL opportunities elsewhere (that render the "40-year decision" less compelling), UCLA & USC bailing out of the Pac 12, Pac12 Network suing DISH for breach of contract, no new deal with ESPN or FOX, fewer kids playing football because of concussion/brain injury concerns...Perhaps TPTB just don't want to bother with it all anymore.

I can think of 6 million (some say 9 million) reasons that’s not the case.  If you really wanted to tank football, why pay a coach a ton of money, unless it is a further conspiracy to chap Cardboarder’s collective hide.

Almost literally, late Thornhill (ten wins in his last four seasons), Curtice, Wiggin/Elway, Teevens/Harris, late Shaw (12 wins so far in his last four seasons) are all a generation removed from one another.

Things will get better, in part because they can't really get worse (an argument I hate in life, but what's worse than a Power Five team winning four times in two years?).

The middle of the road argument between apathy and incompetence is that the football program is under review with several options on the table. The options are complicated by the tremendous change in the FBS landscape over the last year.

It could be that the status quo will be sustained while the analysis and decision is being made. Why try to recruit a new football coach at a very high salary when they don't know at what level they will be competing or even if there will be a football coaching job in 3 years?

Could the trustees be considering joining/forming a new conference that would place stricter limits on NIL deals?
