50-19 at the half. Brink almost has a double-double in the first half (10 points, 9 rebounds, and four blocks). Iriafen has 10 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists. Jones has 9 points, 3 rebounds, and five assists (with only 1 turnover). Jump has made 2 three pointers and has 8 points.
We have 29 points in the paint, have scored 24 times in 36 possessions at 1.39 points per possession. Only 4 turnovers. I think the only thing to flag as a concern is that we are 13/19 from the free throw line (68%).

Betts is a little Jayne Appel like with her presence and soft touch around the rim, going either direction. What a beast. I can't wait to see her up against better competition.

Demetre had 13 points and was perfect 4/4 from the free throw line (after a sluggish start, we ended 27/37 from the line, for 73%). Elena Bosgana had 6 points and 7 boards. Haley Jones had a pretty good night playing point guard. 9 points, 7 assists and only 2 turnovers. As a team, we only had 6 for the game, and only 2 in the second half, playing mostly our second and third team.

It is insane to think that Betts and Demetre are our third string front court. They are a great pairing because Demetre’s outside shooting gives Betts a lot of room to operate and Betts is very very skilled. They would be the starting front court for most Stanford teams in the post Ogwumike era. But Brink and Iriafen are pretty special.

I agree with you, but you get what you pay for. It was a free stream; my standards are not very high. Plus, I got a chuckle when the score hit 81-31 and one of the announcers said "Stanford is starting to take control of the game."

i'm perhaps gun-shy because espn, which i do pay for in my directv package, does the same thing with the women's game but not with the men's. to me it feels disrespectful to the players on both teams not to note each score, steal, rebound, block, good pass, etc as they happen.
imo kzsu radio bball announcers were always great. i wonder if students could become the livestream announcers.

My observations about tonight's game:
1. Defense was excellent for the most part--although we had a stretch in the 2nd half where we made several defensive lapses in a row. We held Amundson, who was last year's #1 three point shooter in the nation, to 1/6 three point shooting. I notice that Jones was often assigned to defend her, and she really did not take a shot until deep in the game.
2. Jones was the best point guard tonight. She had 7 assists to 2 turnovers. Lepolo looked human, with 2 assists to 1 turnover. She also slashed a couple of times and made one basket. Nivar and Harriel also got time at point. Nivar had 3 assists to 0 turnovers. She looked solid on defense to me.
3. This was Betts's coming out party, with 18 points on 7/9 shooting, and 3 blocks. And all that in 13 minutes. Astounding.
More tomorrow!

I could not attend tonight, wish I had been able to. Watched the stream. Really happy we got to see what Betts can do, even if the opponent was not very good and had little size to match up with her. Looks like she has gotten over whatever ailed her and restricted her minutes. Overall my takeaway from these first two games is that the team is high energy and aggressive, and I love that. This does not look like a team that tends to let opponents back in games by slacking off just a hair when they get way ahead. The team is too deep for that. I know Tara can't sub like that against the South Carolinas of the world, but she has so many options that if someone is struggling, not hard to find a sub who can do well. I know there will be dud games. There always are. The great thing is there is plenty to improve. Love how many three point shooters we have. Jump is not the sole means to space the court.
