Dominican University, founded 1890, is in reality a small liberal arts college of 1800 or so students in San Rafael. Their athletics operate in Division II, in the Pacific West Conference. They are the Penguins. After they play us they go on to play Menlo in another exhibition.
Last year, Dominican was 18-11. Their roster contains a bevy of short guards, but they do have a 6'4" player and a couple of others over 6', so they are not devoid of size. Their best returning player is 5'11" Keyonee Neal, a sophomore guard who averaged 13 points, mostly from inside the arc. Neal is from Rohnert Park. 6'0" forward junior Olga Faasola, from East Palo Alto, was their leading rebounder a year ago, so I expect there will be some local fans at Maples cheering her on.
Of course, in an exhibition, the opposition is not nearly as interesting as seeing Tara's decisions about our own team. Who starts, who plays, what roles do our players have this year? The team scrimmage was sloppy at times--but the male practice players were pretty good and disruptive. I doubt Dominican will be better than those male practice players, so we may have a chance to see how the team behaves under much easier conditions.
There are some unanswered questions from the team scrimmage I want to answer. In particular, I want to see how Ogden plays. I didn't feel as if I got a good look at her during the scrimmage. I'm also interested to see if Clardy plays some point and splits that duty with Lepolo.
