Several on the Board are often critical of Sinclair. He over commits, etc, but his speed surprises opponents, especially in the first qtr.

Yes, once the fair catch is called the kicking team can't interfere with his attempt to catch it until the ball hits the ground.
The commentators don't seem to understand the rule.

Yes, once the fair catch is called the kicking team can't interfere with his attempt to catch it until the ball hits the ground.

I guess that must have been the ruling: he muffed the ball, but it flew upward and he could still easily have caught it in the air if Cal players hadn't interfered. Quite a lucky break.
