The solution is to fire and hire a coach without giving said coach 8 seasons at mediocrity.
Show me a program that complacently accepts more than a decade of mediocrity and I'll show you a mediocre (at best) program. And like everything else in life, what you accept you get. Thing is, there is no impetus whatsoever for a return to competitive, exciting mens hoops at Stanford, a la Mike Montgomery. Several posters on this board are evidence thereof. What-the-hell good is "great recruitment" if you can't capitalize on it? Yo, Bernie? You out there?
