There are a lot of very interesting articles out there regarding Coach Smith, his system and his basketball beliefs. These articles made me think we really go the right guy. He wants the job, is convinced he can win with his system at Stanford and is probably going to approach recruiting a bit differently than Haase. Haase was a very effective recruiter, but he couldn't do anything with the talent he recruited. Coach Smith will be far less focused on getting the one and dones. He knows the NIL and the portal are issues, but I think he will attract certain caliber of players that Haase could not. He will really focus on guys who will play hard from start to finish, take care of the ball, rebound and play defense. We have struggled with those things in recent years. MOC was probably a guy who would have prospered under Smith.
