Former HC Tyrone William prevents a fire’s spread by maintaining a defensible perimeter around his home.
Based on the stories I have heard about Coach Willingham’s character, I am not at all surprised to see that he is a thoughtful, informed and responsible neighbor.
Glad his house didn't burn and that he's a good citizen, but "a thoughtful, informed and responsible neighbor" is a little bit of hyperbole in this instance, don't you think? Isn't maintaining a defensible perimeter a county ordinance in Santa Clara County? I know it is in Contra Costa.
Every spring, we whack the grass around the house, as do all the neighbors. A big sign goes up on the main road in town reminding everyone that the vegetation abatement deadline is May 31st. Several years ago, I headed out to our driveway and found find a Fire Department car parked in it, with a couple of inspectors inside. I asked them if everything was okay. They told me that our yard was all good, and that they liked using our driveway, as it gave them a great view of the surrounding neighbors and those across the small valley. I told them to feel free to use it anytime.
Tyrone is a law abiding citizen, and by being one, his house didn't burn down. The story is that the vegetation abate actually works.
