Judy Richter’s interview of Coach Katy Steding presents an upbeat, optimistic picture of our women’s basketball team for the coming year. The article, as well as the photos of the practices that have been shared by the team, have reopened a feeling of anticipation and support in me for the coming year.
I must admit that the defections and all the talk of the portal and NIL after last season had reduced my enthusiasm for college basketball in general and Stanford Women’s Basketball in particular. However, when I see our team’s innocent enthusiasm, glowing faces, and team spirit radiating from the pictures, I’m brought back to the reason I supported the team some twenty plus years ago. I still do not like the direction that intercollegiate sports has taken, but there is still much to like in our players, coaches, and team.
Count me in! I’m on for another season — same seats, same seat mate, same level of support, and same love for the game and the players! Can’t wait! I’m ready for the joy!
