When something changes, one hopes for improvements.

The whole schedule mechanism of last year's GoStanford.com was poorly suited for Stanford with so many sports.  The brief schedule on the landing page often didn't cover the day's games.

Well, it changed this year and not for the better.  The schedule on the landing page is some amount of scrolling down.   And, it only shows 3 events, unless you also scroll right.  Hell, may as well go to the Full Calendar, which takes you to another ad for football tickets, and requires you to scroll yet again to get to the calendar.

Oops, the Full Schedule doesn't highlight today's date (maybe that is browser specific?).   It doesn't immediately show whether games are home or away, or whether they can be viewed remotely (TV/stream).  Nope, the opponent isn't shown. Heck, the Stanford team is only partly shown, depending on the size of your font.   But it does clutter the window with columns of " PM PDT - ". 

Small miracles!  It does appear to show all events each day (at least, up to 9) rather than making you scroll within the day. 

Ok, so click on one of the lines.  Up pops a window that was designed by someone who never looked at it for Stanford.
We can finally find out who the opponent is and where the game is going to be.  But wait, what about TV and streaming?   Well, if you look close there is Cardinal on Black bar at the bottom.  TOTALLY UNREADABLE.

And,  as with each coup d'état of GoStanford.com web sites, data gets mangled and lost.  Go to the men's water polo page and look at the rosters they offer.   All the way back to 1999, that's good.... Until you go look to find the 2010 and earlier rosters are empty, except they show the wrong set of coaches.

WBB does have player rosters back to 1974, but not coaches before 2009/2010, not even for the NC teams or for 1996. It seems they want to have WBB stats back to 2001/2, but there are no stats for any year.

Is this what Coca Cola, et al, paid for???

Each of the matches shows the schools, the sports and whether its home away or neutral. If I hover over a match it shows video options and other links when applicable.

I always use a laptop for GoStanford and I don't like it.  For WVB they don't seem to have any statistics posted for any year.  Previously they would have all the individual and team statistics for every year and the current season.  Perhaps they will upload stats at some point or maybe I'm missing something.

Yeah, the calendar is a mess. I'm one of those people that likes a portrait-oriented screen, so my max window width is just 1200 pixels. I had to reduce the font size quite a bit to get it useable.

You can stretch that out to fill more of the screen. However this only works as long as you keep the width under about 1000 pixels. Otherwise it reverts to the wide layout and just makes things worse. Might be worth trying if you are having usability issues in portrait mode.

The website has been a disaster for ages.  That said, the current version is a bit better but then I have a very large monitor.  My old eyes don't like trying to decipher stuff on my phone.  Unlike the rest of the world, I use my phone only as a phone and a device to play audible books to my bluetooth hearing aides.  I tend to save links to the Stanford Sports I really follow and use those links to pull up the page or pages pertinent to those sports I have found.

You won't find it on the default card layout, or on the list layout, or if you click on the player and find all the other information about them.

But, if you click on Table, it will show up.

If this were a programming language, I'd say this feels like a deprecated feature, to be removed in a future release.


Hmmm.. One graduate football player's major is listed as "Post-Baccalaureate". Is that, as Howard Cosell would say, "Telling it like it is".? I hope it is just an AD person not caring about it and being lazy.

Like, having a winning football team is nice and something we can be proud of, but we are a university with a football team attached not vice versa and I don’t think we should strive to recruit players who are not at least at Stanford for football AND school.

The official website is done by some third party software vendor (e.g. Sidearm Sports) that the athletic department just contracts out.  Looks like "WMT Digital" right now.  What, you thought the athletic department had the budget for software engineers?  They have a lot of raises to hand out...  and this is why athletic department websites for so many D1 schools have the exact same layout.

I don't even know if the athletic department has a say in whether they can keep the old version vs. getting rolled forward with "this year's latest and greatest (not) fan experience!"  What gets me is that none of these third parties do a good job with content management from older versions or perhaps even previous vendors.  Old articles, rosters, schedules, etc are lost to the sands of time.
