Therefore, the Vandy win prompted a $100,000 payment to Alabama.  (I suspect the game’s outcome was worth $100K to the Vanderbilt program). 

And the Vols picked up a check for $250,000 from Arkansas following the Hogs upset.  The previous Arkansas violation was after a hoops win over Duke last year.  

I guess the lesson here is be good enough so the day isn’t a total loss when your opponent upsets you on their field.

It's a really good idea. I watched a college game in which both teams' fans stormed the field after the visitors upset the home team in the last few seconds. There were fistfights all over the field for nearly an hour after the game as the visitors attempted to tear down both goal posts. The penalties make sense to me, along with as many security personnel as need to be hired to prevent that from happening.

After their team lost the 100th Big Game game (a pretty blah game on an overcast, gray day), the Cal fans tore down the fencing that used to separate the stands from the track. They tried to tear down the goal posts but were ultimately unsuccessful. It was destruction for destruction's sake. It was a low point in the rivalry. The feelings between the 2 fan bases was particularly bitter.

I've seen a few games where Stanford fans stormed the field. But I have never seen them go after the goal posts.
