Ragin' Cajuns is the school's "spiritual" nickname in a fashion not unsimilar to Stanford's Cardinal. Apparently, ULL has had a bulldog, Cajun man, a chicken and a pepper as mascots, and the current push is for an albino alligator mascot named Albineaux "Al" Boudreaux. - Okorie is up to 3rd in the country in scoring.  After game #1 this season, I was crossing my fingers that he doesn't transfer.  Now I'm crossing my fingers that he doesn't go to the NBA (actually, I'm always happy for our guys when they make the NBA).

- I hadn't been paying much attention to recruiting lately, but 247sports has us with the #14 recruiting class next year.  Smith is doing nearly as well as Haase so far.

- The team this season is scoring 1.2 points per possession with Okorie on the floor (awesome), and 0.9 per with him off (abysmal).  That's gonna have to change if we want to finish better than the predicted 17th in the ACC.

I am thinking that in all my years of watching LSJU M BB, the only other freshman guards who moved so differently from other players were Todd Lichti and Brevin Knight. Maybe also James Harden at ASU. Russell Westbrook of Ucla hardly played as a freshman and was dynamic as a sophomore. Pretty good company for Okorie. Let's see if he can keep it up against more legit competition.

It doesn't always lead to a score. But if a defense is set up, seemingly solid and prepared, he's gonna be the guy on our team with best chance to disrupt that, get them off balance, and lead to a chance at a inside bucket or someone left wide open on the arc.

Jason Kidd was also an amazing freshman guard in the Pac-10.

Okorie jumps off the screen, doesn't he? We are so lucky to have found him, you can already tell he is a gamechanger.  When is the last time we had the quickest player on the floor playing for us? (It has to be Brevin).  Okorie has the burst, and the stop and start quickness that is so difficult to defend, and the handle to go with it.  We have been so vulnerable to the press over the years, and he is going to be extremely hard to press with his quickness.  His shot looks pure, and in the end game, it is invaluable to have an over 80% FT shooter.  He is creative with the ball, clever in the lane, and a smart and willing passer.  He is facile with both hands, some of his finishes with the left while going full speed and floating are incredible, and he passes well with the left too.  He also reminds me very much of Brevin on defense, he plays passing lanes well, but has picked the pockets of opposing guards with straight man-to-man pressure.  

There are 2 plays from the game that were 'wow' plays that highlight his pace. Watch the play at 3:07 and the play at 4:12 from this clip.  He is just moving at a different speed.  We may not have played great competition yet, but this kid should bring the fans back to Maples.
