Former USC and NFL quarterback Pat Haden will replace Mike Garrett as the Trojans athletic director, the Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday.

Garrett has been under fire since USC was hit with sanctions after investigations into benefits received by Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo.

Haden is now known as one of the voices for Notre Dame football on NBC. He took the Trojans to three Rose Bowls as a player before playing in the NFL for the Rams from 1976-81.

Wow, you know it is bad when...
OJ Simpson\'s Voldemort is not the most tainted on display AND the campus needs to cleanse away the accomplishments of a different OJ.

I guess this is relatively good news for Simpson and Simpson supporters around USC.  At least now he has competition for the most hated former USC athlete.

Oh, and yes, I know OJ was found not guilty of the murder charges.  So technically, he is just a stolen property type felon impacted financially by that civil suit.

Forget about genuine culpability for putting the ship on the rocks.  Garret had to go because USC is going up against the NCAA to get the penalties reduced.   The trick is how to admit no guilt while at the same time being seen clearing the decks of the guys who brought on this mess.   So Mike Garret will "retire" with a minimum of comment other than that required to maintain the facade.   Mr. Clean comes in and he\'s the new face of  USC athletics.

In light of Garrett\'s idiotic, inflammatory and clearly unrepentant remarks in the aftermath of the NCAA\'s findings pronouncement, I can\'t imagine how they could have possibly regained ground with their appeal without booting him.

This is an institution with an inability to control their football factory.   Could you imagine if they kept Garrett and something else happened?  USC football is the biggest show in a town and will continue to best show in town during the 2 year probation.  The town just happens to be a major media market with agents all over the place, so it is easy to imagine that something else could happen.

At least this way USC can point to this as an example of their efforts to try to regain control.
