Hehehe. Reasonable people can certainly disagree. The reason I made that statement is that I feel the pundits, talking heads, "experts" and voters, etc. place a lot of importance on recruiting classes and recruiting rankings and when they see the Pac-12 did well (finishing second behind only the SEC) I think it helps the conference garner respect, which translates into rankings which translates into BCS games, etc. -- since there isn't a playoff system like for college basketball, the opinion of individuals (whether they be coaches voting in the coaches poll, writers voting in the media poll, ESPN "experts" who are on TV 24/7, etc.) seems to matter quite a bit. So when the Pac-12 does well, it helps Stanford to do well. Just my opinion.
