The officiating was truly truly horrible today. I don't think they got a single rebounding foul call correct the entire game. They did finally call traveling once, after the C.al posts wandered around the key all game. Even the old people section was upright and screaming at the officials, and someone over there tossed a ball of paper at the refs, which resulted in a stern warning from the PA dude.
Somehow they gave Jack Trotter (!!) a technical also, though he was across the court from the ball and 6 ft from the nearest player.
So I can't feel too bad for Gutierrez, he had 2 of the 3 refs playing on his team for most of the game. Good thing they couldn't buy a shot most of the game.
And I had to sit next to @$$hole weenie fans. hmmph.

Don't think Cece had the refs as biased towards a particular team--just bad. Anyway, that was my feeling about them--awful, even by Pac-12 standards.

What a bizarre game! After making all of our foul shots for most of the game, but not being able to buy a rebound, we win by missing free throws but getting the offensive rebounds to extend the possessions. After being victimized by reffing that was truly the worst of the season [it was 7-1 against us...at home!... early in the second half], we win because the refs swallowed their whistles on Bright's absolute cattousing of Jorge with about 30 seconds to go. We win because Jarrett Mann has a put-back dunk [which may be the first close-range shot of his all season that actually managed to get above the rim]. We win because Grizzly Zimmerman makes TWO 3's, when he had only made ONE all season before this...
I went into the game convinced that getting blown out would hurt in the short-term, but was, perhaps, the more beneficial outcome in the long-run if it gave cover to Bowlsby to make the tough decision now, rather than waiting one more season, to go with a new coach. However, once the game got started, I realized it just isn't possible to avoid rooting at full throttle against C.al.Â

Regardless of anything else, Stanford has the opportunity to ruin Monty's season and crush California fans in a way that has never happened to my knowledge before.
If Stanford beats ASU and California in the Pac-12 tournament, Stanford very well could hold the distinction of beating California to cost them a share of the Pac-12 title, and an NCAA tournament berth in back-to-back games. It's hard to imagine California getting a NCAA bid with three straight losses to close the season.
There isn't a scenario much worse than this for Bare fans.

yes Jack's T came after a rebounding tussle (which so many of them were), but the whistle was a good couple of seconds later. The ref sure had to think about it, whatever Jack actually said.
thought Monty might get one also, he was gonna bust a gasket after the "cattousing" no-call.
And does 24 FT to 16 include the 3 times that Aaron was fouled in the last 2 minutes? If so, it was much worse than those numbers imply.
It would be great to beat them again this weekend, just so the jerks who were sitting next to me can have a sad.
