I know, I know.  But Oski does inspire fear.  It\'s a kind of creepy fear,  like the kind you get when guys in Manhattan jump out and start cleaning your windshield while hitting you up for money, but I guess it\'s better than laughing so hard you snort your Diet Coke.

1.  It\'s the band\'s mascot, not the team/university mascot.  But still....

2.  We\'re still ahead of Notre Dame with their fighting leprechaun.

3.  Apparently Chief Osceola was good enough for #2 at Florida State, whereas former mascot Prince Lightfoot (Timm Williams, a Yurok Indian) was untenably non-PC.

The Seminoles -- the tribe, not the football team -- threatened to sue the NCAA when it started leaning on Florida State over the mascot and nickname. The lesson the NCAA learned from that was not that there might be diversity of opinion on the subject of mascots, but that the Seminoles were not people to be messed with. If Prince Lightfoot had gotten a lawyer, this all might have turned out differently.
