No need for speculation.  Harbaugh told radio listeners on his show last night.   Pretty much the whole package of knee injuries.  Torn ACL and MCL, sprained PCL.   What a bummer for a kid coming off foot injury that kept him out for freshman year.

That sucks so much for him, being out a whole year only to win a starting job and get two plays.  Hopefully his recovery is speedy and complete, and he comes back even better a year from now.

The problem was a knee infection.   Comments on game day made it sound like no one was really sure of the source.   And,  like many infections these days,  sometimes it takes extended courses of antibiotics to knock the thing out.    And worse, it might be a marker for something systemic.

Vin Scully =  I never really caught baseball fever,  but when the Dodgers moved to LA my mom caught it for the whole family.  Vin Scully was the soundtrack for my summers growing up.  Baseball game always playing in the background.  When driving up to Stanford for the first time I dialed in the Giants game.  Couldn\'t believe how laconic the announcing team seemed.  Lots of moments with just crowd noise, which is weird when you\'re driving through the central valley and there\'s nothing else baseball to see.  It\'s a matter of taste,  but to me Vin Scully was baseball.

FWIW the depth chart for this week lists Skov but not Owusu. All else being equal, I\'d rather have Skov and Owusu, so I suppose that\'s good news.

Owusu was worth at least 10 points a game last year.  At the beginning of the season he\'d score 6 himself once a game, then people stopped kicking to him and set our offense up on our own 40 yard line to start most drives.

Yeah, but the relevant measure here is value over replacement player--Owusu\'s replacement is Doug Baldwin, who himself has shown lots of big play ability, not just against Sacramento State but also his sophomore year, when he had six plays over 35 yards. By contrast, Skov\'s replacement is Max Bergen, who\'s a gamer but nowhere near as accomplished as Baldwin.

I feel absolutely wretched for Toilolo.  That\'s a catastrophic injury for a 20 year old young man to face after just one quarter of his college career and the road back is not assured.   Even to live a normal life he\'s looking at (probably) 12-18 months of hard rehab.

As a father whose son plays football it just makes you wonder why we love this darn game so much?   And does the pleasure balance out the pain for someone like Toilolo when it\'s all over?

I was at the OSU game last year (see my handle) - the Owusu drop on the first play from scrimmage was painful.  Would have changed the whole complexion of the game.  That and a couple of touches for Toby on the last drive of the Big Game and who knows what might have happened.
