I don't think anyone writes Kal to bypass the filter, it's just the correct way to spell Kal.

Since I first saw the reference here, I wondered what the author was trying to say.  Heck, I would guess that Harvard is near an MTA station and I know that Cornell is in the middle of nowhere.

I thought f.urd was supposed be an extension of turd, so in that case the insult is pretty clear, as long as you're on the "in" and know what 'f.urd is implying. "college near a BART" is only an insult if you think that BART, or public transportation in general, is somehow negative.

Personally, I think UC East Bay is a clearer insult. It hits on several levels: (a) they're just another school in the UC system and are trending towards losing their cache (b) they are referred to by so many names (C.al, B.erkely, California, UC B.erkeley) that one more name doesn't even add to the confusion and © makes use of the general reputation of the East Bay as being a bit down market.

But then again, I'm one of those who would rather put a "." in C.al so that my posts done read more incoherently than the gibberish I purposely type.

What is the point of ever using juvenile references regarding other academic insitutions?  I think it says more about the author than anything else (grow up, already......).

Interestingly enough, I raised this issue recently at BI and was roundly criticized.  Most of the people who post there enjoy their little zingers.  To me, it is ridiculously infantile...

I have great respect for Stanford and my Alma Mater.  We are incredibly fortunate to have two world class universities in the Bay Area.  To suggest otherwise only makes one look rather foolish...
