I'm sure enthusiasm will be high -- Dawkins will be gunning to turn us into an NIT dynasty. How can one not be thrilled about this turn of events?

so when was the last time a school won back-to-back NIT championships......if we win again this year maybe we can go for a three-peat next year..... ???

I'm not happy with Muir's decision on Coach Dawkins but what's done is done and I ALWAYS want Stanford to win. I'll be rooting for Stanford in the NIT and I hope and fully expect that all of the Cardboard is doing the same, correct?
My feelings on Coach Dawkins are mixed. Unlike some past football coaches he is an honorable man who represents Stanford well and respects his players. As far as I can tell he's played the recruiting game ethically, competed hard and, most importantly, his players graduate.
But .... Dawkins took over a team which consistently made the NCAAs and competed for conference championships and has done neither. His system seems ill-fit for our school and our recruits. In my mind after five years it was time to part ways. I'm disappointed our AD came to a different conclusion.Â

I guess the players could have voted with their feet (or mouths) by expressing displeasure to Muir and push for a change, but it sounds like the guys generally support Dawkins.
I have a hard time believing that the team's performance in the NIT will have any effect on Dawkin's position. Even if he wins the NIT again, without a trip to the NCAA next year, he'll be done. So count me among those rooting for the win.

Stopped by the Ticket Office on my way to work this morning and got my ticket. Lower Reserved, three rows back, virtually halfcourt line. Not exactly the season ticket seats we had before the purge, but I can easily hit it from there with a popcorn kernel. And, I get to wear my 2012 NIT Champions tee-shirt one more time...

There was absolutely no way that could happen. It would be suicide from an athletic standpoint for any player with eligibility remaining.
I remember reading this quote in November 2004 at the end of the football season: "Don't worry, we'll handle this." It was from the outgoing senior players to the underclassmen. They were heading to Ted Leland to tell him that his Buddy wasn't cutting it and had to go. If the underclassmen had approached Leland, and Leland opted to keep his Buddy (and there were rumors that he wanted to give him "just one more chance"), those players would have been blackballed for the rest of their careers for insubordination.
Put me down as another who thinks it's time for JD to go. Going back to my days as an undergraduate, even though men's basketball was a perennial conference doormat, the marquee games (vs. c.a.l. and UCLA) were always sellouts. And they always have been, until now. It was quite a sight on TV - vs. c.a.l, there were entire upper sections that were vacant. That's just a brutal statement fans are making.

The greatest leverage any student-athlete will have is with his/her donations to the athletic dept after graduation. The AD will listen to donating alumni much more readily than s/he will current student-athletes.

I feel bad for the sports information department. The SID had to publicize the NIT as though making it back were some sort of accomplishment. I watched the postings on Facebook this morning trying to drum up support (likes) regarding the men's basketball team's post season destination. They have to make it look like a big deal when everyone knows we will end up as the No. 68 team, at best. A Mike Ferrari has written "consolation :(," but he lack of any other follow up speaks even more loudly.
If Bernard Muir had been good at his job, he would have refrained from commenting, leaving his options open until the end of the season, whenever that might be. He could have simply said and done nothing, which would have resulted in few comments. Now, he has the wrath of fans coupled with a commitment to the coach (i.e. his word).
