In a surprisingly long and detailed blog on his top-25 voting, Wilner said he was dropping James Madison from his top 25 because, despite their signature win over Va Tech, James Madison\'s schedule from here on was-- to paraphrase-- a collection of unworthy midgets. And, no, he was not referring to Notre Dame\'s future schedule, either, though he fairly could have been.
Of course, this schedule is exactly the same schedule JMU had when Wilner voted them into the top 25 over Stanford a couple weeks ago. If the schedule was set and public and enough to vote them out of the Top 25 now, why wasn\'t it enough to trump Wilner\'s vote two weeks ago? Nothing has changed...
Except, perhaps, sometime Saturday Wilner finally got around to looking it up and considering it. Which leaves us a choice of "villains": Lazy Wilner or Quirky Wilner or Lazy, Quirky Wilner
Or, as Yvonne succinctly noted: The Chronicle/Crumpacker\'s bias doesn\'t disprove or somehow improve the Merc/Wilner\'s bias. I would have phrased it "Wilner\'s bug up his a**", but Yvonne\'s message was clear enough.
An interesting gedankenexperiment : What if, in some parallel universe, Wilner was just another sportswriter caught up in and laid off in the Great Newspaper Collapse. Suppose also that he caught a break and was brought on at the Ames Daily Bugle Clarion. Would he be writing about how sucky Iowa St. was? Would Wilner just unpack his act and keep on? Would he start using Stanford as an example of why Iowa St. shouldn\'t feel so bad, there was this school out in Palo Alto...
