We regret to report today that senior QB Josh Nunes is medically retiring and has finished his Cardinal football career. Josh started nine games under center in 2012 and led us to thrilling wins over #2 USC and Arizona. We offer our deep gratitude to Josh for his leadership & contributions in our historic championship season.

Separately, senior FB Geoff Meinken has decided to graduate this spring and will not return for his fifth year. Geoff fought like a warrior to come back from his spring 2012 knee injury, and we wish him all the best.

Nunes will go down as the QB starter with a 7-2 record in a year that Stanford won the Rose Bowl. Without his career performance against UofA and doing just enough in his 3rd start against a top ranked US.C, we don't go to the Rose Bowl. I'm sure it's not the way he wanted, or expected, his year to go, but he was greatly appreciated by this Stanford fan. And he seems like a class act.

Reports say that it just happened too quickly.  Usually, spotters already have their hands underneath the bar in my experience.  I guess for the tough guys, they want to see the lifter get close to failure before they make a move.  But the fall of the weights apparently didn't cause any additional injury.
