Could have been better, but could also have been worse for Stepfan.
Consider this: Johnathan Franklin went only 15 picks ahead of Stepfan. I'd be willing to bet this pair of Pac-12 backs will gain more NFL yards than Mich. State Le'veon Bell (2nd Round, pick 16) and Wisky's Montee Ball (2nd Round, pick 26).

Their leading rusher had 332 yards on 3.2 yards per carry. Going to guess Stepfan will be given plenty of opportunities to earn a role.

Disappointed that the Colts didn't draft Kulabafi given that he was available that far down. Thought for sure they were going to between their problems running the ball and Pep Hamilton as the new OC. Oh well, glad to hear he's going somewhere he can prove the naysayers wrong.Â
I think his stats would have been much better if opponents hadn't stacked the box during the pre-Hogan part of the season. I also think he's plenty of fast with the pads and lights are on.

Congrats to Stephan! Cards getting themselves a solid all-around back who doesn't fumble (an overlooked quality, IMO). Personally, I don't know much of anything about Le'veon Bell, but I think Montee Ball will be fine in the NFL, probably putting up comparable numbers to the two Pac-12 backs. But so much depends upon the quality of the O-line they play behind, the type of system the team runs, and the quality of their opponent's D. (Playing against Pittsburgh or Baltimore twice a year, if you end up in their division, or against the 49ers or Seahawks in the NFC West, is bound to pull down your numbers a bit.)

Before Stepfan, Colts picked a DE, OG, C, and DT. Given their need to beef up the line, it's not hard to see why they went that way...I'm mildly amused that they picked up Khaled Holmes (that injured center from U$C). Maybe the pick was made for talent by omission. U$C's season might have been worlds better if Holmes hadn't been injured for so much of it (but I'll take that Stanford win).

We're now getting near the point where it's going to be difficult to find teams to root against because they're all going to have Stanford guys. ;)

Jim Dray plays for the Cardinals as well. That makes a third NFL team with multiple Stanford players, in addition to Seattle (Sherman/Baldwin) and Indianapolis (Luck/Fleener/Whalen).Â

I will be interested to see if Griff makes the team in Indy. He seemed like a long shot before going down with injury. But from what I saw pre-season, he caught everything thrown his way, and it was usually a QB not named Luck throwing to him, since he usually come in with the reserves. I really liked GW as a Stanford player, nut he seems a tad small for the NFL.

I got the sense that he was brought on to the practice squad to help ease Andrew Luck's transition to the pros, especially considering Luck's late start (with Spring quarter). I don't think that Griff will ever sniff the field in a game, let along make the 53-man roster, but he's apparently contributed enough to the practice squad to stick around.

Griff performed very well in preseason before getting injured; some fans were speculating he might make an impact based on those performances. Always tough when you miss a year, but I think he's got a shot.

BTW, the Cardinals also picked up Andre Ellington, a RB from Clemson who had some really good numbers. It'll be nice to see the proxy Stanford-vs.-ACC-(almost-SEC) proxy fight.
