This is quite remarkable.  I remember going to see Arizona play at Stanford in 2010.  Stanford was ranked something like #15 and Arizona was like #18.  I called the ticket office earlier in the week thinking I might have to buy a few days in advance to get a good seat.  The guy on the phone said there were plenty of seats available.  So I bought some good seats about an hour before kickoff from the box office.

Based on that article, if you figure 5,000 tickets go to visitors, there are already 37,000 tickets spoken for on each game.  Now when season ticket holders get to buy single game seats the most high demand games could sellout.  Then once mini-plans are sold there will be hardly any single game tickets available.  It is conceivable that most every game is sold out before the first game is played. The days of buying tickets at the box office on game day may be over at Stanford stadium.

I hear our rival on the East Bay has a nice new big stadium they are having trouble filing.  Maybe they can rent it to Stanford for the lowercase big games ($C, UCLA, Oregon, ND).

How many of those 32K do you think will actually show up for the SJSU game?

I am hoping the game sells out AND is packed--it would be good for both the Stanford and SJSU football programs. Maybe Stanford season ticket holders who have tickets they won't use will put them up for sale on StubHub or Craigslist. I hope Spartan fans show up in large numbers to support our team.

The disparity between tickets sold and butts in the seats is a problem for both Stanford and SJSU.  Our totals are higher, but the phenomenon of no-shows is the same.  It's too bad MacIntyre didn't stay two or three years more at San Jose St.    Playing good competitive football is only part of the answer, but the most important.  We've got the team, but if San Jose keeps winning I think it will be easier for San Jose to build a solid, reliable attendance floor than it will be for us to play in front of true sold out actually attending crowds our stadium consistently.  Many opponent fans buy smaller ticket packages just to get the one game they have at Stanford stadium...and let the other tickets go unused.

I'm not sure being in the Mountain West will give a brobdingnagian boost to to SJSU home attendance.  Most of those teams are just the old WAC and only Fresno St. reliably brought in big fan numbers to your stadium.  Some Boise games drew really well, but that was back when the Spartans were competitive.  San Jose has got to rebuild its attendance out of its own fans and in this pro-sports overloaded region.  Might be a while before Spartan Stadium gets full again.
