Seems like a perfectly sensible belief for a Stanford athlete to hold. Stanford athletes should be smart enough to realize that: a) they're cogs in an enormously lucrative business; and b) many of athletes at schools that don't take academics as seriously as Stanford are being used and then essentially discarded without any meaningful compensation.
I would argue that a full ride to Stanford is meaningful compensation, while a full ride to Texas A&M, if you enter without the necessary academic preparation to succeed in the classroom, may not be.
