For 2013, this worked every time we watched the game at George's house. Unfortunately, we tried my new TV at my new apartment for Utah and we went to the University of Spoiled Children game. (I went to the UCLA game too for my 15 year reunion but I believe George watched it on his TV).
Three additional notes:
1) I moved into this house in 2012, new TV, new couch, new quaterback post-Luck. We clearly hadn't ironed out the kinks yet as the first game we watched was the UW fiasco last year. At the time I was sitting on the left and Ratmandoo on the right and it was probably the closest we've ever come to having a fight. I spent most of the game screaming "WHERE IS NOTTINGHAM?" "WHY WON'T SHAW PUT HIM IN?". Because, you know, I knew better than the coaching staff. Ratmandoo on the other hand was maddeningly optimistic that the offense and playcalling was going to improve. We all know how that one turned out, and we never sat that way again. Spanning two seasons we've won every game with our current configuration.
2) I have one "vintage" stanford shirt that I happened to wear while watching the Utah game at Ratmandoo's. Normally after a loss I will not wear the shirt again that season (or maybe ever). But this shirt has the distinction of being clearly different than a USC shirt so I often elect to wear it when I go to games at the coliseum. I figured that the way we were playing the curse of this shirt could not overpower our fundamental football. So I wore it. I will not make that mistake again.Â
3) I also believe that we have the power to affect the game by watching on TV. On third downs if you stand and shout you have a good chance of causing the opposing offense to false start or give our guys enough energy to get to the QB. If you ask for things like turnovers, or play action passes, or sacks and you are earnest enough it will happen. And finally, don't forget that the announcers have power as well. In the p12 championship game, when the announcers started fawning over the ASU kicker and how he was automatic and never missed and had made 18 in a row and was God's gift to kicking we all knew he was going to miss.
