Thank you, Gauss for running this - it's been fun and I hope we do it again next year.
As my last prediction shows, I was hoping to win the prediction game WHILE enjoying a Stanford Rose Bowl win - a close and hard-fought game but a win nonetheless. With Stanford striking out at the Rose Bowl there is no joy in the Lefty Mudville after mighty Gaffney has struck out. May next year's prediction game winner (and the Stanford offense) prove to be more lucky.
On the other hand, at least two of us predictors beat the best of the media insiders (congrats Extra Point). Plus I get that nifty Gauss provided picture tribute. Woot! Woot!
Looking back at my predictions I see I predicted a 13-1 record while Stanford went 11-3. I missed on predictions of a loss to Oregon and wins at Utah, USC and in the Rose Bowl. So not that impressive! I think my ultimate win is mostly due to reading this team's nature early on in the season and sticking with that read despite temptations to be a more enthusiastic fan. I saw this team as suspect offensively but with a shutdown defense leading me to stick with low scoring wins out the gate when others were predicting higher scoring games or Stanford blowouts. By making unpopular low scoring picks I may have had a contrarians advantage (Gauss' numbers show I had the most negative offensive bias of anyone in the top 10 - not inherently a good thing.)
I get a Cardboard shirt for winning? That's pretty cool - I have last year's hat and long sleeved shirt but hadn't ordered this year's version . I'll send Yvonne a PM.
In 1938 Neville Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time", Superman first appeared in Action Comics, Seabiscuit beat War Admiral ....... and C.a.l last won the Rose Bowl.
