Simmons is Jordan Richards but more ready and more of a leader.  He’s good to go.  And very savvy.  Better than his junior tape.

Alexander is a glove but we knew that.  And he’s a hammer and I knew that.  Playing for John Curtis Christian should have him ready when he arrives, too.  Anderson clearly is thrilled to get him.

Holder made the biggest leap.  The previous tape bscured how long he is, and you cannot teach length. So the comparison to Sherman seems apt.  He’s probably an inch and a half shorter but looks like he’s got a wingspan near 78 (Richard is that plus a fingertip).  Also hits and will do it even harder with 15 more pounds.

I still like how Murphy hits and it appears he can transition well to corne.  Another arrow up.

Franklin still puzzles me but another view could change that.  It's clear that he was Plan A.

The one thing that I loved about Alexander is that he looked back when the ball was in the air.  If there is one thing that I think our cb's have struggled with, it is looking back for the ball.  It can be taught, but there is a degree of instinct to it.  I'd be interested in Gary Cobb's take.

And, they are taught that when you have been beaten on long balls your opportunity to catch up and make a tackle is when the receiver looks for the ball. On short and medium routes, if a corner back looks back the reciever has an opportunity to change direction. If this is the design of the play it could mean 6 ponts.

Just like linebackers can be "taught" how to time the snap, just when to turn around is a little bit teaching and a fair bit of instinct... the roar of the crowd, where you are in the route that's being covered, the receiver's eyes; there's a lot that goes into timing of a look back.  Do it too early, and the receiver can gain a step.  Do it too late and it can be a pass interference.

He doesn't spend a lot of time mired simply in stats.  I consider him one of the top tier of player evaluation on the Bootleg, mainly because he spends the time to really look these guys over.  He played LB in college  at (ahem)  USC  but made up for it by sending a son to play at Stanford.  Played more than a decade in the NFL. He is consciously trying to build his business and brand.  Hard worker, there are a lot of kids out there to be evaluated...which he does between sports radio duties.  Based in the East,  so I don't know if his Stanford contributions are simply just part of the biz, or if he has a special place in his heart for the Pac-12 and Stanford.
