Muir on Hoops Committee

NDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –  Stanford’s Bernard Muir, the Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics, has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, the NCAA announced Wednesday. Muir, who was appointed along with UNC Ashville's Janet Cone, will begin his term Sept. 1.

The duo, both of whom possess extensive basketball backgrounds, will replace current committee chair Ron Wellman, the director of athletics at Wake Forest, and Big Sky commissioner Doug Fullerton, whose terms expire Aug. 31....

Didn't we have a representative on the committee at one point (Leland or Mike Montgomery)? 

It probably doesn't hurt us to have a guy on the inside, though obviously he'll have to recuse himself from decisions affecting Stanford.

Always good in the Biz world to have contacts.  So this is good.  Decisions affecting Stanford?  Hopefully at some point.  :-[

Of course, Muir has to recuse himself from any decisions involving Stanford.  In fact, he has to leave the room if and when Stanford is discussed.

The one advantage of having your guy in the room is that he can answer factual questions about the program like the status of an injured player.  I doubt that that's a big advantage.

Anyway, if the pessimists are right, by the time Muir starts on the panel next year, we'll be so far from tournament contention that Muir will never have to leave the room.  (Personally, I think that next year's team won't be that bad, but with all the turnover, who knows)

Yeah, last night stunk, but turnovers aren't this teams biggest problem.  We're 55th out of 350 D-I teams in turnover %.  In the Pac-12, we're 4th, behind UCLA, Cal, and Arizona.
