This "dear ol' Alma Mater" stuff died when college athletics became an industry. Heck, I never thought any less of John Ralston when he took the LSJU head coaching job even though he was one of "Pappy's Boy's". I figured it was his best option at the time....
Yes, I agree with you 71Bear. I don't begrudge Monty. He wanted to get back into coaching college, Stanford had a coach, and moving to Cal meant he didn't have to pack his bags.
We can't on the one hand advocate firing Dawkins while on the other begrudging a coach who used to coach us for taking an opportunity to coach elsewhere, even if it is with our rival. I'd be a touch more miffed if he had been our head coach at the time, but even then, I'm not going to pretend that if another academic institution (even a "rival") offered me a better job that I wouldn't take it.
