Okay, this is a tight one.  It's all down to #1 singles, #3 Kristie Ahn vs. #1 Jamie Loeb.  Ahn won the first set in a tiebreak, but has fallen behind 4-0 in set #2.

Stanford dropped the doubles point when #1 Ahn/Zhao lost 6 straight games, going from a 5-2 lead to losing 8-5.

Loeb is 49-2 this year and has not lost since February.  In fact, the first set vs. Ahn is the first time that Loeb lost a set since March.  It is looking bleak for Stanford.  As Terry noted, the doubles point was crucial.

Yep she's the best in the country and proving it.  After winning the first set, it's tough to watch Ahn possibly lose the next two 6-0 6-0

Yep, it was the doubles collapse at #1 that did it.  I was thinking pre-match we would have to take one of three points - doubles or #1 or #3 singles.  And it looked so good - Ahn and Zhao rolling, up 5-2.  Don't know what the heck happened. 

Thought Hardebeck would continue to have a tough time at #2, given her recent struggles and her opponent.

But also Zhao seemed in good shape early at #3 singles, tied 4-4, before losing 5 straight games and falling behind 3-0 in set #2.  She rallied a bit, but ended up on the wrong end 6-4, 6-4.

Great play at #4, 5 and 6.  One weird note - match point at #6, the Tarheel player hit a swinging volley forehand that appeared close but wide.  She threw her racket down and immediately appealed to the umpire - don't know the upshot, but overheard something about some form of penalty on her that, as the match was over, was somehow transferred to the #1 match.  It ended up not mattering, but would be interesting to know what happened.

Anyway, the scary thing right now is that both SC and UCLA are primary contenders for some of the remaining NCAA titles this year - UCLA in the women's finals against UNC, both teams are in the semis in men's tennis.  UCLA is the #3 in softball seedings and hosting a super-regional; the two teams are #1 and #2 in women's golf (Stanford is #6), and both qualified for the finals in men's.  None of the three teams is likely to be a threat in track, and none of them are likely to make the baseball tournament.
