Cox and Chou rumors are staying in TX (though UConn seems to be after both of them) and Boley seemingly the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends or staying in KY? Based upon what I read online it does not appear that Ionescu or McGwire's GPAs are high enough for Stanford.

I remain mystified how Duke seems to continue to attract top talent but maybe sometimes it's the consolation prize relative to Stanford admissions?

I too do not subscribe to any paid sites so just read a bunch of publicly available information and use the old mosaic theory.

Keep in mind, though, that the 2016 players have just completed their Sophomore year and so both academic performance and their thinking about college can still change a lot.  We know who the superstar basketball players are before the junior year, but junior year is usually the pivotal academic year.  This is the year when they first start taking AP classes and also the year when kids start thinking seriously for the first time about college.  So while we will learn that some prospects are not academically cut out for Stanford, we may also discover that some prospects who were intending to stay close to home reconsider when they begin to realize Stanford's academic advantages.

Actually this was from before the end of the school year so her grades thru 1st semester Soph year.  To me McGwire is at worse a top 20 player, so I'm hoping for the best.    :)    But agree with you both very uphill.

I thought people might like some more information on Alanna Smith, the 6'3" Aussie who we are recruiting.  Here are two videos:

Those videos are quite impressive, as is her resume.

She is athletic, moves well, and is a big 6'3".  Reminds me a little of Ruef.  Terrific rebounding and defense.  Her father played professionally in the Australian league.  "I lived in a basketball stadium as a child."  She is articulate and has a delightful Aussie accent--duh--when pressed says she would like to model herself after Kevin Durant.  Represented Australian on the U17 team and more recently the U20 team,  and wants to represent Australia in the Olympics.  She was nominated for the Australian youth player of the year, seems to have lost out to Kristy Wallace (a combo guard) who is headed to Baylor.  Clearly the best Australian Big in the 2015 class.  It does not seem to me as if any of the foreign recruits show up in the ESPN rankings until after they have committed.

OK, well, here is what I can find out about Shannon Coffee.

Skilled interior prospect with improved agility, mobility; defends, rebounds and initiates fast break; back-to-basket game continues to be emphasis of impact; a true-5 prospect. (Olson)

ESPN 3 star, 90, not ranked in top 100. 

That makes me suspect that Nora Kiesler decided to go elsewhere, though I have no particular knowledge.

If the name Coffee sounds familiar out of the Buckeye State it just might be because 6-5 Shannon Coffee is the niece of highly respected and longtime Dayton Hoopstar mentor John Coffee.  With impressive size and a solid frame this post has the tools to make an impact at the level she’ll let her work ethic allow.  Though there are plenty of rough edges to smooth out yet, the Centerville High School product has already shown great strides since we saw her last in the spring.  She’s willing to play physical and works to obtain and hold position on the block.  Speed isn’t the first adjective anyone will use but her willingness to get out and run the floor gets her from A to B efficiently enough.  The concepts are in place and plenty of effort goes into all she does making for a promising prospect to keep a close watch on.
