Thanks for the great video. One of the 5 greatest Stanford plays I have ever seen. And I go back a ways.
Question: Another top 5 was 1970 Plunket with a TD pass to the SW corner of the end zone to send Stanford to the Rose Bowl. Who caught the pass?Â

1. how about UW players wearing different colored helmets?!? (Can that possibly be right?);
2. UW was dominating the LOS in the clip linked, and Stanford was very fortunate that the UW coaching braintrust messed up the play calling on their drive when they last had the lead. Specifically, UW was at Stanford 38 yard, third and 3, and decided to pass on third down (incomplete). That brought up mando passing down on fourth, and another pass. Incomplete. If you know you're going to go for it on fourth down, then you run on third down - especially if you were having the success running the ball UW was having at that point in the game;
3. How about that crowd? That was probably 70K in the Old Lady.
4. How did Stanford stop UW on that last (?) drive, when up 29-22? Clip ended with UW having first and 10 at Stanford 34 yard line.

There was a period of time back in the 70's that the Huskies designated one defensive player to wear a dark, purple helmut with no markings. I don't know if they continued/continue to do that, but it wasn't given out every year. It was a big deal for them and identified in their eyes a truly dangerous hitter. Probably was just a device of that coaching staff at the time. Husky fans I talked to at the time were, indeed, reverent about the player wearing that helmut.

It's hard to hear the song, but it sounded like "Let the Good Times Roll," only with straight (as opposed to swung) eighths.
What's much easier to hear is a horn that sounded very much like a vuvuzela.
If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
