It is clear how good the offensive pieces Stanford has are. They moved the ball to the USC 32 on every possession, the defense was PHENOMENAL, and this OL is going to be incredible. If they improve the Red Zone offense, which seems doable, Stanford will win the Pac-12. It sure would be nice to get USC in the title game and beat them on the scoreboard as well as on the field.Â
My guess is Stanford's coaching staff is going to totally re-think it's Red Zone offense, simplify, and be far less predictable. In a way, this loss may be a catalyst for making the team better.Â
On another note, the chop block call was an abomination, IMO. You simply can't call that penalty. The guy Wright hit low wasn't engaged by Garnett. The spirit of the rule is you don't hit a guy low when he is already engaged. Two guys went at a blitzing LB one guy was blocking him low, and the other was reaching to push him high. Garnett hit the guy after Wright had upended him. Just a mind-numbingly awful call to make, on a potentially game deciding play.Â
