. . . watching the #1 defense in the FBS shut down UW in their own house. UW had 81 yards rushing with an average gain of 2.1. The had a total of 98 yards passing for an average of 2.9. That is dominance.

I think TyM should just play RB. Cajuste, Rector, Trojan, Owusu and Hooper/Cotton can get the receiving job done.

I'm not a long-timer, but don't think we've had a pass-rusher with his athleticism in my memory. His sacks were impressive not for beating the OL, but mirroring Miles when he tried to escape.

Ron George is the closest analog to Kalambayi, IMO. But Kalambayi is better because he's doing more early in his career. The thing I love about him is he doesn't miss the QB because he's got such quickness and strong hands. Vaughters is strong and fast but doesn't have quick twitch ability like Kalambayi.

Ron George is the closest analog to Kalambayi, IMO. But Kalambayi is better because he's doing more early in his career. The thing I love about him is he doesn't miss the QB because he's got such quickness and strong hands. Vaughters is strong and fast but doesn't have quick twitch ability like Kalambayi.

Skov got two of this three sacks in the last five minutes of the Orange Bowl, when Va Tech was in a must-passing situation on every down. Washington Money called it right; Kalambayi has the quick twitch and instincts to mirror a QB perfectly.Â

Ron George was the same name that came to mind. DoggNasty is faster. It looks like he will be the best pure OLB we've ever seen in a Stanford uniform. Maybe the best pass rusher period. With that speed in agility, he could drop back into coverage as well. The only reason we didn't see him on the field last year was because of the depth.

And it would have been 4 sacks in one game except for the sack that was taken away by a hard-to-see-on-tv penalty for illegal use of hands on #13 (we didn't have a 13 on the field) that was announced by the ref as "repeat 3rd down", but then was suddenly a first down.Â
Remember Kalambayi was #4 in the country in Nike Sparq testing at the Opening, and ran a 4.52 officially and said he'd been timed in high school at 4.47. As a 245 pound linebacker! And this was before going through training with Turley. Of course, 40 speed doesn't always translate to results on the field, but when it does, it is awesome to watch. The speed just jumps out at you, it's like watching a big cat stalking his prey and timing up when to pounce. It is just sudden. Just the kind of thing we need for the likes of Golson, Hundley, and Mariota still to come.
Speaking of Golson for next week, I watched some of the ND-Syracuse game, and he does a lot of dancing in the backfield. There will be some opportunities for TO's there.

What's awesome about Kalambayi is he's #11 in sacks in the country after yesterday, but by far and away has the largest yards per sack, at an eye-popping 11.25 yards per QB takedown.

The coaching staff thinks freshman outside linebacker Bobby Okereke will be doing a Kalambayi look-alike routine once he gets built up in the SC program. Wouldn't that be fun?
I think the staff gets some credit for a defensive scheme that set up Kalambayi to make those plays. I've seen some seasons where talented players lost leverage because of schemes that didn't do that.

I really liked . . . getting the W. ;D That's all we need to do each week is WTD. We can win ugly every game and it won't hurt our chances to make the playoffs . . . as long as we win. It will age us fans more rapidly than nature, but ugly wins won't hurt us if we beat ND, Oregon, UCLA, and the Pac-12 South Division Champion.Â
Whether or not we make the playoffs, we have a chance to knock 5 teams out of the race -- Washington, ND, Oregon, UCLA, and ourselves. ;)
