I wonder if the next step at Stanford might be the hiring of an "Intellectual Strength Coach" for all the undergraduates who aspire to be Nobel Prize or Fields Medal winners or even just Supreme Court Justices?

If a person could demonstrate the specific value added to potential "thought leaders" who aspire to such lofty achievements, I am fairly confident that they would be compensated accordingly.  Unfortunately, the metrics in evaluating their value-added is not as objectively determined as an improvement in vertical leap from 31" to 39".

I was primarily commenting upon job descriptions. I don't know what an "Intellectual Strength Coach" for students aspiring to Nobel Prizes, etc. would be if not a professor.


I don't know the details of Mr. Turley's work and personal committment to his pupils, but generally most professors at Stanford put in vast amounts of both. Though indeed many consider their key pupils graduate students, any aspiring for Nobel Prizes would have to become one of those.
