Did you see him when rafting? Yes, he was fond of asking if you would like to see his kittens, then getting that old pickle jar out.
The next Christmas after we saw him, the postman knocked on our door to deliver an unusual Christmas card. It was from Buckskin Bill--he took an elk shoulder blade and etched his Christmas greetings on it in what he thought were Indian pictograms. Then he addressed it and attached stamps. The postman was very nonplussed to be delivering a shoulder blade. I don't really know if he came out to use the post office ever, or whether he handed his shoulder blades to rafters to post for him!
