Great news! Hopefully Dodson, Moschkau, and our mystery #4 will follow soon. Crazy to think we haven't had a top ten recruit at guard in over a decade - since Wiggins in 2004.
That said, it's hard to know how these things shake out. Going by ESPN, Tinkle was #10 her year, Ruef #16, and Sara James #18. Incredible to think how much more we got out of folks like Lili (unranked), Bonnie (#60), and Karlie (#77). Does make you take this all with a grain of salt...

Obviously, those coaches who can do a better job predicting college success than the rating services will tend to have better teams. Tara has repeatedly shown that she and her staff can find talent that others relatively overlook.

That was a fun read to look back (wistfully!). Funny how at the time we were oversaturated with bigs and needed more wings and guards. Now we have the opposite problem - we've had a steady pipeline of short, speedy guards from Amber to Lili to Marta to Anna and now Kiana. And we've had lots of great wings/shooting guards: Bonnie, Karlie, McPhee, Alanna. But we've really been hurting underneath the basket on offense. I really do wonder how different things would have looked over the past four years had Beebe not had to medically retire.
That was a fun read to look back (wistfully!). Funny how at the time we were oversaturated with bigs and needed more wings and guards. Now we have the opposite problem - we've had a steady pipeline of short, speedy guards from Amber to Lili to Marta to Anna and now Kiana. And we've had lots of great wings/shooting guards: Bonnie, Karlie, McPhee, Alanna. But we've really been hurting underneath the basket on offense. I was just thinking the same thing. We had Appel and then the Ogwumike sisters so our star players were in the post and our very noticeable weakness was our lack of agile productive guards as painfully exposed in our national semifinal loss to Texas A&M in 2011.
Now we have a pipeline of speedy guards with the potential to score, but we are losing the battle inside. The last couple years we have given the opposition too many second chances with offensive rebounds. I'm hoping Fingall will help with that aspect and maybe we can find a post with the ability to start either with our mystery 4th recruit or someone in the 2018 class.

The lack of posts has been noticed by our coaches. As Kate just said last summer:

This summer she played for the Canadian U18 and U17 FIBA teams. At the U18 in Chile she was Canada's leading scorer and rebounder (15.8 pts per game/9.4 rebounds) (and Mikaela Brewer was second leading scorer for Canada in that tournament).
At the U17 in Spain she was the second leading scorer (10.3 pts per game/4.5 rebounds). Note that she was 16 years old for both tournaments, which makes her performance at the U18 especially impressive!
So at a minimum she seems like one of the top prospects out of Canada, right?

I watched a bunch of the U18 games to see how Mikaela Brewer looked, but at the time I didn't know we were recruiting Alyssa Jerome too, so I wasn't paying attention to her particularly. Jerome has been listed on PN. For a long time one of the top 4 International recruits. Now they list 8 or so but they don't rank.Â
