As someone who's been around a few Bills fans, Losman, Edwards and Manuel are all pretty bad quarterbacks but not really the worst. To really be an immortally bad quarterback, you need a certain amount of drama, confusion, and aggressive incompetence. (Josh Nunes, for example, is a classic bad quarterback, bless his heart; though mostly because of qualities external to himself, e.g. post-Luck, Nottingham, being the "never blame the king, only his courtiers" target for David Shaw, etc.).

For the Bills, then, their worst quarterback ever is Rob Johnson. At least in my time of following Bills followers.

There has been a reluctance to follow through to the obvious implication: namely, if you (general you) really believe the criticisms you're making, why aren't you calling for Shaw to be fired? The general praise from the critic camp is that Shaw represents the university well, but it's hard (for me at least) to take this seriously as anything more than a minor virtue.

I didn't follow Trent Edwards' career that closely, but I agree that after that shot he was much more tentative, much more of a short throw, dump off QB.  And you just can't survive in the NFL being such a "horizontal" QB.

BTW, that player would be ejected (or should be) for a hit like that today:  helmet to helmet, AND spearing slamming to he ground.

But if you're asking me for the turning point in the professional fortunes of Trent Edwards, I would say it was the unrelenting beat downs he took behind Stanford's OL and inept coaching in the Dark Ages.  That, more than anything, undermined his physical and mental wherewithal to be a good NFL QB - and he had all the tools to be just that.  As I've long said, Stanford was lucky that Trent's parents didn't sue the university for child endangerment.

Trent and Derek are good friends, and I'm sure Trent's NFL connections can help get the VR system some tryouts. Perhaps Stanford let Trent down from a football development standpoint, but the relationships it enabled off the field seem to already be helping.

During a tour of his lab a contingent of NFL executives got a taste of how virtual reality could make a real change for the league, from player training and enhanced fan experiences, to making players more empathetic on a host of social issues.

First, I agree, the player would be ejected today, and you can distinctly hear the announcer say that it was a "good clean hit, nothing wrong with that hit."  Even then, that was BS.

Second, I recall seeing Trent play for Los Gatos high school against Paly, and I remember that a Paly LB and DE took him out on one play.  Trent was gone for a while, and I remember thinking "make the DE and LB 25 to 50 pounds heavier and much faster and Trent's going to have problems at the next level" or rather at the level after that.
