Too bad we couldn't find a decent backstroker.
Only kidding, Regan Smith is the World record holder in both the 100 and 200m. Amazing! Especially amazing as a high school senior.
Free Phogge!!!! And no, crimson doesn't refer to the Tide.

Yeah, good chance we go 1-2 in backstroke.
This years class featured the top ranked recruit, 6th ranked recruit, and 20th ranked recruit.

By the way, the men did pretty well too. #11, #13, #14, #16, #19.
No top 10’s, but literally half of the 10-20 ranked recruits.

Stanford will also benefit next year if Taylor Ruck (last year's #1 overall recruit) decides to return. As a freshman, she was a two-time individual NCAA runner-up, taking second in the 200 free and 200 back. She was also third in the 100 back and on the victorious 800 free relay team. She is sitting out this year to train with the Canadian national team in preparation for the Olympics.

Thoughts on the fact that the women's team is 6th in the latest rankings? I know a step back is inevitable after all we lost, but just how far a step I wasn't sure.

Not to worry -- Stanford will be there at the end, but unlike previous years, everyone will have to perform well for the team to win NCAAs. No Manuel, Ledecky, Eastin, or Ruck to carry them.
Rankings of teams at this time of year tend to be done on the basis of superficial analyses, and those close to the sport take them with a pound of salt. If they are based on any data, it's either times that swimmers have produced this year, or results of dual meets. But teams, and the individuals on them, may or may not be rested in such meets, and rest is such a brobdingnagian factor in how a swimmer performs that any comparison of best times is apples and oranges.
The website swimswam, which is written and edited by ex-competitive swimmers, takes a much more knowledgeable approach to the rankings. Here's their latest:

Just me or does it seem like Abbey Weitzeil has been at Cal forever. Maybe its because she deferred a year for Rio.
