I only caught a few glimpses of the match last night, but it was a beautiful thing to see KP back on the floor. Some of her swings were just awesome. Absence definitely made the heart grow fonder and the team operates at a whole other level when she's on the floor.

I'm looking forward to today's game.  Not only is a rematch of the match we lost 0-3 so we'll be out for serious payback, it is also is a special event

What can fans expect at the match?
Fans will notice a toned down experience throughout Maples Pavilion, including:

• The lights will not go out for introductions
  
• Lower music and PA volume
  
• Absence of the Stanford band
  
• Reduced use of game horns during warmups and the match
  

I'll miss the band, but I surely won't miss the 3-ring introductions, the amplified music, the guy on the mic, and the fans being told when to cheer.  (Notice that there's no mention of cheerleaders -- if they ever go to WBB, I can't recall them leading a cheer.   The Dollies are there often.)

Maybe the fans can figure out when to cheer on the team by what is happening on the court, not on the big screen.  (However, I can conceive that the fans may be asked not to cheer in deference to those that would be bothered by the noise.  If so, I'll try to comply.)

Against USC here was the first this year that I remember Stanford coming out strong and then fading later.  I hope we get to that same good start against UCLA today (to whom we lost 0-3 in L.A.).   It was interesting to watch the replay and hear Don Shaw's commentary.   We did finally give KP a rest very late in the 3rd set.  USC had been serving to her and she wasn't returning as well as others might.   Kipp subbed in for McClure for 1 point; Berty saw no time.  Of concern was that Xu was not suited up.   Fitzmorris had a sub-par night attacking (0.071) but helped out on 6 blocks. (Shaw noted that until late, she was always trying to kill cross court and they were playing her that way.)  Gates had a good night (0.428, 1 solo blocks, 6 block assists).
