Belibi is great when refs let 'em play, but she's not technically sound to avoid silly fouls and errant passes when everything isn't clicking just right. By contrast, Jones has such a wide arsenal to draw on and can create her own shot, dish terrific disguised passes, and work either in transition or in traffic. She's also a little reticent to draw contact, which is a blessing in a Missy-ref'd game.

haley was great for a stretch. fran played great defense - quite disruptive inside.
tara used ashten for offense and fran for defense.
hannah jump played well.
kiana started slow, finished strong.
lexie was amazing at the end of overtime. her 2 steals in the final 2 minutes put the game out of reach

The Missy call on Jones was ridiculous -- yet another attention-seeking march to the monitor to make the game about her. Kudos to the team for shaking that off and finding a way to win. Lexie had great minutes in OT. I appreciate how she uses her length to get shots off under pressure.

IIRC, the teams submit something after each game. The conference awards slots in the bigger games (e.g., conference tournament) to refs it deems worthy. Of course, Missy is one of their favorites.
She has had some doozies over the years, but wire-to-wire this had to be her worst game ever. But it's getting old, and the team needs to compensate for that.

The good - Prechtel saved our bacon in the first half, Jones showed out in the second half, Lexie Hull put the game away in OT with some gritty scores, and Williams overcame a slow start to lead the team well in the second half. The team hung in there and persevered despite struggling to shoot well.
The bad - Carrington had a very uncharacteristically bad game with stuff she did when she was a freshman like driving into traffic wildly and getting called for charges. I assume that is an anomaly and she will be back to usual next game (if she is not hurt or ill and did not look hurt). Rebounding is still not close to where it needs to be, both positioning and hanging onto the ball. Got rebounds stripped away way too often. FT shooting? Ugh. Three-point shooting - double ugh.
I do wonder what is going on with Williams' layup finishes. She does great work to get to the basket and then misses the shot, which would seem to be the easy part after getting there. Not a new thing but worrisome. Fingall does not seem back to even 90% yet. Not much can be done but wait and hope she regains her form and that her knee is really ok.
I think if we shoot at all well this game is a blowout. Can't shoot much worse from deep or at the FT line.

They will learn and improve and it speaks well of them how much time they are getting in this sort of game. The big issue to me in this game was the upperclass(wo)men. A handful of takes from inside Maples:
1. And I hate to lead with it, but that was the WORST officiated game I've seen in a long time. And it wasn't so much the bad calls - of which there were plenty, with I'd say about 50% going in Stanford's favor - but as another poster noted, it was the "stop the game while I do something important at the scorer's table and you all wait and watch." It was beyond annoying, and struck me as incredibly egocentric and unprofessional. WTH is going on with MB, in particular?
2. For the 1H, I thought Tara was coaching a hockey with team, with the way she was running subs in and out, with players on the floor for 1-3 minutes before being pulled again. The worst treatment was for Carrington, who was plainly peeved at game's end (right from post-game huddle at midcourt to the locker room - the first one to exit Maples). And I don't blame her. Yeah, she forced a couple shots - but she wasn't the only one. But the leash was ridiculously short for her, especially a player with her resume. I'm wondering if something went on in practices leading up to this game. Whatever, I hope/trust things get worked out with Carrington, who was a complete non-factor today. More generally, Tara has to give groups on the floor more time to play and get into the flow. It was only when she halted the player line subs that Stanford got some flow (and that's when Haley, in particular, got going).
3. Interestingly, Lexie played the entire 1H (which stood in stark contrast to most of the sub patterns). She started out hot, but grew fatigued as the half wore down - very predictably. And was cold shooting later in 1H (i.e., 2Q). Strange that Lexie didn't get some rest earlier than she did. Overall, Lexie had a very strong game, so this is picking at the edges, but I think it could have been better with a little better PT management.

5. Last point: Gonzaga is very well-coached. That entire team boxed out, played hard for the entire game, and pursued their game plan to a tee. I was impressed.

On your second point, I was and am very surprised that DiJonai played far less than what I thought and expected she would be playing during the critical parts of the game (the fourth quarter and overtime) as one of our top players and a senior leader. It was startling to see her get yanked after only a few minutes on court. Yes, she was making some head-scratching decisions, but so were others. You would think Tara would want her out there, not just with the tangible skills she has scoring and defending, but also as the fearless, most experienced player in crunch time on our roster.

3. Interestingly, Lexie played the entire 1H (which stood in stark contrast to most of the sub patterns). She started out hot, but grew fatigued as the half wore down - very predictably. And was cold shooting later in 1H (i.e., 2Q). Strange that Lexie didn't get some rest earlier than she did. Overall, Lexie had a very strong game, so this is picking at the edges, but I think it could have been better with a little better PT management.
4. Stanford really needs to work on being "strong with the ball." Too many times balls were fumbled away, or grabbed for a moment, or not secured. Gonzaga, otoh, was physically stronger and bullied Stanford around quite a bit.
5. Last point: Gonzaga is very well-coached. That entire team boxed out, played hard for the entire game, and pursued their game plan to a tee. I was impressed.
P.S. I'd say Kiana is the most indispensable player on this very talented roster.

On your second point, I was and am very surprised that DiJonai played far less than what I thought and expected she would be playing during the critical parts of the game (the fourth quarter and overtime) as one of our top players and a senior leader. It was startling to see her get yanked after only a few minutes on court. Yes, she was making some head-scratching decisions, but so were others. You would think Tara would want her out there, not just with the tangible skills she has scoring and defending, but also as the fearless, most experienced player in crunch time on our roster.
