I share this view. And I think that's a great scenario for Stanford, substantially elevated from our historical (pre-Harbaugh/Shaw) performance and as much as can be expected from a coaching staff over a sustained period.
If Stanford is finishing a decade with an average of 8 or more wins per season then that is a strong result.
There are just too many fast and strong kids out there with sub 4.6 40s and sub 3.5 GPAs for Stanford alums to expect 10+ win seasons as the norm.
In several sports getting a scholarship to an elite academic school is the goal for many playing the sport as teenagers. In those sports Stanford can sustain top 5 or top 10 results. Football is just not one of those sports.
The next threat to the status quo will be the money for likeness usage.
That is a benefit the players risking body and mind deserve, but I have to believe it will negatively impact Stanford Football.
I don’t see anyone outside of a small ring around campus buying anything because of a Stanford student-athlete image in the promotion.
