However, I have to say, for a virtual banquet with a potentially unlimited capacity, their messaging could be better. I received no confirmation email to confirm I actually did successfully sign up, and instead was simply told I'll get an email shortly before it begins with the link. (Until this thread jumped, I honestly forgot I'd even signed up, or when it was, as there was nothing to "calendar" to make sure I remember.)
Given that I never got confirmation, I'll be kind of peeved if I wait until 5:30 tomorrow and never receive anything. And if I don't, I don't even know who I'd contact or where I'd go to try to get a new link to "attend." Of course, it turns out now I probably couldn't, since they've closed it well in advance. There's no obvious justification I'm aware of for cutting off the invite at least a day before the event when the invite only went out a few days beforehand in the first place.
If anyone from the AD is reading this, there is work to be done to better engage your passionate fans.

I assume that is just the folks historically invited to the in-person one? The only place I saw the link was here when Spiny posted it on 5/8. Stanford WBB twitter feed posted the invite for the first time yesterday, but I guess folks had to move fast if it closed today:

Again, great for them to open this up to those of us who aren't locals who can join the FBC, attend regular chalk talks, etc. Don't mean to look a gift horse in the mouth. Just odd the way they're handling this relative to the many many invites I've received from other parts of Stanford (as well as the other two universities to which I am affiliated) that are substituting zoom events for historically in-person alumni events. With all of those, an email confirmation is sent with the link to the event in the same confirmation so there's nothing else to do before the event starts, and registration available until it starts given that it's now a non-rivalrous good.
