I recall a lot of GB fans complaining about BM, that he wasn't as good as his stats, that he was a system LB, etc. I have no idea if any of that is justified.

Blake was the master of making the tackle 5 yards past the LOS. Also he couldn't cover TEs very well. I'm not sure what the Giants' scheme is, but the complaints were justified at the time.

2.  Martinez one of the most underpaid players during his first 4-5 years (under rookie deal) in the league.  In a "freer" market, Martinez would have been paid for years 3 and 4 (handsomely) and not been (perhaps) overpaid in his second contract with the Giants.  It's ridiculous that this hasn't been addressed as part of the CBA.  This simple change would better align $$ to performers AND remove the regular "hold outs" we (justifiably) see by later-round draftees who are slotted into significant underpayment . . . for longer than the career average of an NFL player!!

3.  I'm glad Martinez got paid, whether or not he is "worth" it.

4.  Don't know what rap on him in Green Bay was; do know that he could not cover RBs in passing game on Sunday against the 'Niners.

So true re salary structure. I wasn't a big fan of Martinez early on at Stanford because I thought him too slow. He proved me wrong in many ways...but not covering rb's and te's. In the end, I don't think our scheme required that of him, so he was lucky...and very good at sniffing out the run and tackling.
