I understand no firm plans for competition can be made until Covid and SCC rules change. But Stanford's explanation of future sports events is so nebulous and convoluted, IMO it would be better to simply state no plans have been made at this point.
"Stanford Athletics is exploring on a sport-by-sport basis the landscape of competition opportunities that could potentially be available for varsity teams over the next several months. In consultation with university leadership, Stanford Athletics believes there is still hope for a meaningful in-person experience for many student-athletes this academic year, and for some level of competition for many teams within an environment that prioritizes health and safety."
My interest is WVB. The article says the players are on campus practicing. I assume that means they are having daily practice in the auxiliary gym but I'm not sure about that. The first match is in ten days. It would be nice to get some news from the team on their webpage or twitter account.

They are not practicing. Must quarantine for 10 days and of course can’t practice now at Stanford. Doubt they will play on the 22rd now. I haven’t seen a schedule yet abd I looked at 4 Pac 12 team sites. So still working on a schedule
The sort of good news the Sacramento area counties are no longer stay at home. Moved up with outdoor dining ok now. Maybe SC County soon

Thanks for the info. What's the purpose of going on campus and quarantining for ten days? Do they plan to stay on campus and practice at a nearby facility outside SCC. They won't be able to play PAC-12 away matches and return to campus so this isn't adding up to me.

Remember they were anticipating that Frosh and soph would be in classes.

It looks to me like they are anticipating that SCC will change its policy in the next 3-4 weeks. Given the Saturday announcement about frosh and sophomores not returning, athletics had to make a some kind of look-forward statement.
As the frosh/sophs decision shows, these things are not written in stone.

They needed to put out something in early January, so even though a lot is uncertain they had to try to say something.
The students need to come to campus and quarantine as individuals if they were not together as a team throughout the holiday break. The easiest place to keep them at the same location, but physically apart, and tested as individuals probably is Stanford University. Once they clear their individual quarantines they can then relocate as a team, as required.
I really don't understand how Pac-12 teams will be able to fly to SCC, stay in SCC hotels for the night, compete in SCC, and then leave. I can guess that Stanford wants that but may need to pursue other options. The other options likely vary by sport. Some sports can use facilities all over the USA, but others (M Gym & W Gym) may need very specific items that are not available at many D1 or D2 schools. So it likely gets tricky to summarize that for all of the teams.
If the coaches don't know their specific situation then that's not good. Given the uncertainties of COVID I am OK with a statement that just says we are trying to finalize everything and will let the fans know when possible. It is not as if we will get to watch them in person.

Does the lack of Stanford classes affect any foreign athletes attempting to return to Stanford, or was that only for the very first classes of freshman year?
The Sacramento region did not meet the written termination condition of the SaH order. Clearly reinterpreted for some reason . As written, the order would re-trigger tomorrow unless someone has a birthday dinner to attend. I wouldn't trust that order not being implemented again soon.
Pac12 teams are close enough that they can fly in and out on the same day. The problem is competing against 2 schools in SaH regions over a weekend.
MOST of the sports (including gymnastics, swimming, tennis, golf, baseball, softball) are non-contact sports that SCC didn't restrict.
I wonder how many people do this for loopholes in tax laws. "If I visit another country on the way home, do I still have to pay duty on the diamond bracelet?" I'm with BC.
