Running 7 separate networks is more expensive than running one, even if you are sharing content between the networks.
I agree that it would be a bad development for fans. But it may be a decision they must make for the sake of the business.
Perhaps games that are not televised can be streamed online. After all, that does seem to be where tv is headed - streaming services. In 10 years, will you even be able to access shows and sports without an internet connection?

"Seven separate networks" makes it sound like more than what it is. Really it's just seven available streams that never are all different, and many of which are rerunning prerecorded programming most of the time.

I am not in the media business, so I don't know the specific industry economics. I imagine that it is more expensive than just running one channel/stream, I just don't know how much - some, a lot or just a little. We do know that there is no precedent for what the P12 has done (consistent with Larry Scott's "bold vision"). No other conference is running more than one channel. Of course no conference is televising more events than the P12 Network either.

Thus, there could be one live stream available (at odd hours or in the summer when it is out of season) plus whatever saved content people wish to stream, but when there are a lot of athletic events happening simultaneously, you aren't limited to seven live streams.

Would it make sense to go from six regional channels to three? PNW, CA, and Inland? Along with the main channel, would that be enough for when live events overlap?

There are just not enough PAC 12 fans. Especially in the Bay Area. I know that there are diehards out there but I don’t care about rewatching old football games. They need to have a big vision and produce more original programming and not depend on canned games that only alums and a few fans will watch. That takes a ton of money. Add some controversy and get rid of boring “experts” and and boring hosts.

Moving to online only impacts distribution costs. It doesn't change production or other business costs. I don't know how much each one is.
With only one "channel" instead of seven, P12N should expect a further drop in revenue, but maybe not much.
I'd pretty much scrap the whole thing and start over. The first thing would be to move to a low-cost location in the footprint. Phoenix makes a lot of sense.

One main Pac-12 Network as we currently have, one or two alternate channels a la SEC or BC's streaming option---as opposed to regional channels--for overlapping live content, and better production values with Phogge calling the shots.

Production values are an easy fix as long as the entity is willing to pay industry scale to most technicians and over scale to a few. Also pay freelancers vacation relief, short turnaround, OT after 10 and double time after 12. Hotel after 14 regardless of location (enacted in the IATSE after an overworked assistant cameraman fell asleep at the wheel), no flat rates and provide an opportunity to enter a pension plan if staffers have one. That way you get good people particularly during the present time when a ton of talented folks can’t find much work.
Hire a veteran TV executive producer with a vision for the “Look” of the network and make sure it’s not some person who’s been sacked by a major network (worked for multiple guys who are on their last stop and phoned it in).
All that costs money. The current operation is like a C studio operating in Encino but really a continent away from Culver City or Melrose Avenue.
