Surprised? Guy is horrible. 10 years of promises and not making the tournament but maybe once in those 10 years. Trying to live on the old "incoming signing class is awesome" and " will be good in 2 years" only to have guys transfer out faster than a waterfall.
Utah was paying him $3.76 million a year! Guy is Mr Mediocre, surprised he lasted this long.

This is what I mean by Stanford lacking any performance standard coaches are held accountable to meeting. Utah has a discernible standard. Stanford does not.

Bill Walsh taught me the significance of setting performance standards and holding people accountable to them as a prerequisite for winning.
It's important because when everyone is aligned with a goal, the odds of it being achieved increase significantly. At the same time, lacking agreed to standards makes winning less likely, as is evident with Stanford MBB.
What is it that makes Stanford win Directors Cups? My suspicion is the entire university is aligned to win them and that's why it happens, not because of some amazing ongoing annual coincidence.

Thanks CT for making my point explicit. I think attempts to portray the Utah AD as somehow more proactive or more aggressive than what we've seen at Stanford seems misguided, and that had Krystkowiak been Stanford's coach, several years ago the board would have been excoriating Muir for not firing him.

It's hard to coach MBB at Utah. Most of the coaches at Utah, in their 113 years of men's basketball, have been much more successful than Krystkowiak. Richardson, Bennion, Peterson, Gardner, Pimm and most especially Rick Majerus have had considerably stronger results than Krystkowiak.
